It is essential that tender submissions are presented impeccably and consistently, and meet formatting requirements set out by the client.
The correct application of styles in Microsoft Word is the best way to create consistent, well-formatted documents. In Word, a style is a collection of formatting instructions. You use styles to format the paragraphs in your document, for example:
"Title" style for your title
"Body Text" style for body text
"Caption" style for the picture captions
"Heading 1" for the major headings.
Our expertise in Microsoft Word ensures that:
We harness Microsoft Word’s built-in structural elements (such as a title, headings, sub-headings, or captions to pictures) to help evaluators make sense of responses, in alignment with the RADAR structure
All elements are formatted consistently, for example:
Body text in a smaller lighter font and titles in a larger heavier font.
Pleasing vertical space before all the major headings, but none before the captions under pictures.
There is no need for Macros or snazzy add-ins
Templates are robust and remain consistent even when creating large documents.
Microsoft Word provides four kinds of styles, which provide everything needed to create sleek and beautiful documents:
Paragraph styles are used to format a whole paragraph of text
Character styles are used to format a few characters within a paragraph
Table styles are used to format tables to the same colour scheme, font and layout
List styles are used to built sets of bullets, numbering and indentation.
Osirix possesses many tips and tricks to overcome key issues and glitches encountered in Microsoft Word, notably:
Managing both Portrait and Landscape pages in a single document
Controlling the consistency of Headers and Footers
Creating Heading Numbers that are robust in large documents
Adjusting page numbering for different sections e.g. a Table of Contents, Main Body and Appendices
Ensuring consistency with line spacing, hanging indents and paragraph spacing
Adding customised paragraph numbering
The main benefits of styles are to:
Save time when you create your documentUsing styles is the quickest way to format a document. Modifying a style takes about the same number of mouse clicks or keyboard strokes as directly formatting one paragraph! It then takes just two mouse clicks to apply the style to other paragraphs: click the Style box, then click the name of your style.
Save time when you edit your documentIf you modify a style, you instantly change the formatting of all the text in that style—no matter how big your document. If your Heading 1 style is blue, and you modify the Heading 1 style to be green, then all your Heading 1 paragraphs instantly become green. This gives you powerful control over your document. If your document needs a more open look, modify the Body Text style to give a little more space after each body text paragraph. If you want your main headings to stand out more, modify the Heading 1 style to use a bigger font, with a bit more space before the paragraph. When you use the built-in heading styles, you also get to use Outline View, which can help you structure your document, and save hours of formatting time.
Ensure consistencyUsing styles ensures consistency. For example, by using styles, you can be certain that all your headings have the same amount of space before them. You don’t need to check every heading to be sure. Below are some samples of example formatting.
