Case study
Hitachi Rail UK

Project Overview
The High Speed 2 (HS2) Command and Control (CCS) and Traffic Management (TM) systems will underpin the operation of the HS2 route. It will regulate the automatic operation of the trains on the line, permitting up to 18 trains per hour to operate safely and efficiently, to maximise capacity. It will also interface with conventional rail systems at numerous points on the route, and act as a technological springboard for future route extensions.
Approach
35 written responses were submitted, which covered all operational aspects of the proposed system, covering:
CCS Architecture
Traffic Management System
Train Operations Delivery
Software Development
Integration Management
Trial Operations
We worked closely with Italy-based Subject Matter Experts to obtain information and transform it into bid responses. A review schedule was implemented to ensure responses were factually correct and compliant with HS2 Ltd requirements.
Results
Tender was submitted on 6th June 2022, with Contract Award due in June 2023.
